I hope this finds everyone well and safe. As we continue for over six months of changes to our lives and
the major effect on the processing of immigration visas, including Green Cards, I want to keep you
alerted to continuing problems. On August 25, 2020, USCIS announced that it will avert an
administrative furlough of more than 13,000 employees, or nearly 70 percent of its workforce, that was
scheduled to begin August 30, 2020, “as a result of unprecedented spending cuts and a steady increase
in daily incoming revenue and receipts.”
You may not know that USCIS pays its employees with the fees from the filing of applications and
petitions.
AND FILING FEES ARE INCREASING SUBSTANTIALLY ON OCTOBER 2, 2020.
USCIS expects to be able to maintain operations through the end of Fiscal Year 2020. USCIS states,
however, that “Aggressive spending reduction measures will impact all agency operations, including
naturalizations, and will drastically impact agency contracts.”
